Introducing School Buses in Tauranga

From 2015, the Bay of Plenty Regional Council has operated school transport in Tauranga. This is a signal of the continued growth of Tauranga, as one of New Zealand’s fastest growing cities. The changes bring Tauranga in to line with other cities of a similar size.

As a result of this growth and the improvements to the Bayhopper services, the Ministry of Education withdrew the majority of its school bus network in Tauranga. Replacement services include school buses which are called Schoolhopper services. Over time the regional council will integrate these services with the Bayhopper network.

Students who are eligible for Special Education School Transport Assistance (SESTA) will not be affected by these changes. Students in rural areas will also continue to be served by Ministry of Education services.
